Comic Strip Tuesday - The End...Again

From Dragon Magazine #54

Forgotten Strip #2 sees our party enjoying their newly found riches. Auric finally gets some decent armor. Although, changing from a mesh half-shirt to a uni-tard with a frightened woman's face on it is a debatable upgrade. Khellek gets a discount Doctor Strange costume complete with a disco collar cape and Lady GaGa gloves and matching belt. And Tiarra...gets a cape. Seems like someone got short changed here. Anyways...

Before they have a chance to put on a really quality fashion show, a low rumbling shakes the room. Seconds later a massive Purple Worm bursts through the ground and looks destined to consume Auric, uni-tard and all. Fear not true believers for Khellek's magic can stop the beast!

Or can it?

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any further comic strip adventures for these three heroes so we are left to wonder their fate forever.

Comic Strip Tuesday - The Return!

Good news ladies and gents...
While browsing some old Dragon Magazine issues, I stumbled on two more comic strips that I didn't realize were in there. So I had my crack team of pdf extractors (read: me) go to work to pull from the ancient pages the last two, forgotten, D&D comic strips.

First up, from Dragon Magazine #53 we have to continuation of a brief adventure into the mysterious Dungeon of Roakire. The followup has our adventurers Auric, Tirra and Khellek traveling deeper into the dungeon after a deadly battle with a Jacklewere. They encounter goblins and a Beholder (who put those two together in the same room?) until the reach the fabled treasure room in the deepest bowels of the earth.

Will this be the end of their adventure?

Not hardly! Were you not paying attention when I said I found TWO new strips??

Comic Strip Tuesday

This is an ad that ran in early editions of Dragon Magazine. Seems somewhat similar to the comic strip series that ran in comic books for many months. The adventurers are definitely similar: male fighter, female rogue (in the comic strip she was a cleric), and a mysterious older wizard (in this case looking like a cross between Doctor Strange and Dracula) and attacked by a leaping Jacklewere (as opposed to a leaping werewolf in the strip.)

Episode 8 - The party reaches the Mountains of Ash and set off into them, straight into an avalanche. Saren is hurt by the avalanche and Grimslade uses a scroll to cast Dimention Door. The spell carries the entire party to an ancient castle. Could the end of the quest lie here?

Apparently so, since this is the last one ever published. Maybe the readers were supposed to pick up the quest here and role-play what they think happens from here.

Episode 7 - The party fights the man, who it turns out is a Druid (at least I think he is, he changes from a man to a wolf and then to a raven), and his werewolf companion. The werewolf is paralyzed and the druid flees and the party continue through the Black Swamp of Lobella and toward the Mountains of Ash.

Episode 6: The party sets off to search for Grindal, Grimsalde's old mentor. And by the looks of the second panel, it seems the magic-user is also their henchman from the amount of gear in his backpack. From out of the woods an arrow thinks into a tree in front of Indel. A man and a woman challenges them and Saren tries to talk their way past them, but before the party can do anything, the man and woman transform into wolves and attack.

Episode 5: The party returns to Gavin's Inn for a mug of ale to to reminisce about adventures past. They think back to their first adventure: Grimslade being introduced to his companions by his mentor Grindal, defeating a Black Dragon (I assume its a black dragon because it looks like it's breathing acid on Saren.) to find the fabulous Heart of Mekron.

Suddenly at the inn, an apparition appears, it's Grindal!

Episode 4: Saren uses her powers to find Indel through a door. Valerius makes his Open Doors roll and smashes it inward. He draws his newly found magic sword and, recognizing it as the Great Sword Naril, the dragon allows them to leave in peace.

Episode 3 finds Saren the Cleric, Valerius the Fighter and Grimslade the Magic-User descending deeper into the dungeon in search of their companion Indel the Elf who clumsily fell through a trap door. Suddenly a band of goblins appear and attack, but Grinslade is too fast and casts a simple Sleep Spell on them.

Meanwhile, Indel enters room to find huge Red Dragon staring directly at him.

In episode 2 the Green Slime drips from the ceiling and falls on Indel and melts Valerius' sword down to the hilt. Grimslade unleashes a burst of fire to force the slime back. Out of no where comes a cleric named Saren. How did she find them and did they know she was around? Seems suspicious to me.

Saren heals Indel and from a chest Valerius discovers a magic sword. Indel looks for secret doors but instead finds a trap door by falling through it. Does he seem more like a liability to anyone else?

The rest of the party knows they have to go deeper into the dungeon to rescue him.

In our first issue, our valiant party is exploring the ruins of Zenofus Castle. The elf, Indel uses his infravision to inspect the corridor ahead before moving forward in front of the fighter, Valerius and the magic-user Grimslade. Look Out! A shambling mound attacks, but Grimslade quickly throws a Hold Monster charm on it which illuminates green slime attached to the ceiling.
